In this tutorial i'm going to show you how I make my music. My main music genres are VGM with a touch of electronic music, but I always try to experiment with new sonorities. So, I'm going to show you how to make stuff like this. I'm not going to cover other specific genres. So, when I say stuff like "you must have this, you must do this", it counts for the genres I make, though, you can try to experiment with those in other genres.
Before beginning with the actual guide, I reccomend you some stuff to download. (I will update this list.)< SGM2.0 Soundfont
However, I'll stick with FL Studio's VSTs.
This should be what you are seeing if you have opened FL Studio. Now, there are four fundamental buttons:
Red circle = playlist, where you put your patterns or audio clips;
Blue circle = piano roll, where you compose your melodies;
Black circle = channel rack, where you add instruments;
Yellow mark = mixer, where you mix your sounds, by adding effects.
Now, the channel rack should be already opened. If not, click its button.
As you can see there's a rectangle with the word "Sampler" on it. However, it doesn't have a sound. So, let's add one.
Click on the "+" thing. A list of instruments popped up. Now, I know you're curious and you're wondering what every instrumen does...but we'll select Sytrus.
This is Sytrus. Now, you're probably wondering what all these knobs do...but we will see them another time. On the top right of Sytrus' UI there's a text saying "Presets". Click on that. A list with presets will pop up. Choose a random one.
I selected Hammond 2. Now we can close Sytrus.
Now we are going to make a melody. Click on piano roll's button.
This is the piano roll. There are some small buttons on top. I'll explain the most important ones real quick.
The pencil is to add notes
The brush is to add notes on the same line non-stop
The other brush is to add smaller notes on the same line non-stop
Now let's place some notes.
I made a melody in F major key. To delete notes, right-click on them. Also, you can change the tempo of your song.
Use the mouse wheel.
